Week 4
It's been so long since I've been able to update this blog! The building is going well. We have put the foundations in, and the walls are up. The Kisereni community has also dug the pit to 10 metres in depth.

I have been on safari twice. Once for three days in Lake Manyara and Ngorngoro in the second weekend. Here, I got fantastic material for elephants and giraffe. I had three elephants walk right passed my vechile with a baby. Unfortunately, I wasn't lucky enough to see the Tree Climbing Lions. We also saw Cheetah and Lions in Ngorongoro crater.

I then spent 5 days in the Serengeti. The time spent here was concentrating on the big cats. As soon as we got into the park we saw a pride of lions with about six cubs. A leopard had left its kill in a tree, and I waited for three hours for the leopard to come back. It did! However unfortunately it was dark, so I did not get much material from it. However it was such a thrill to see the leopard appear and climb up the tree to where its kill was. I also saw a cheetah attempt a kill, and many elephants, antelope and baboon.

I shall sign off there as I am heading back to Kisereni.

Week 1
This week has been all about the volunteering, and setting up safaris for the weekends. I am teaching English to 12-13 year olds, and I am helping to build a toilet for a primary school. The current toilet is overflowing, and the school can't afford to replace it. We are based at the base of Mount Kilimanjaro, so the weather is quite cold and wet. It has rained every night and mourning this week, making the building very hard work! The area is very beautiful, and we are surrounded by mountains and banana plantations.

I have set up some safaris so that I can get more material for my art. Next weekend I shall take one day off from volunteering, and have a long weekend. I shall go round Lake Manyara, and Ngorongoro Crater. I hope to see some Tree Climbing Lions in Lake Manyara, and hopefully in the crater I shall see the Big 5.

Introduction

This blog is a diary for my latest trip to Africa. I needed some more material for my wildlife art, and I, combining it with volunteering again. Many of you will still be under the impression that I am returning to Karunga, Kenya, where I volunteered in 2007. Unfortunately though, I was told last week I was rellocated to Moshi, Tanzania, due to the political disturbances. Therefore I will be flying to Nairobi, Kenya, and then travelling for 8 hours by road to Moshi!
